Jillean Battle—an attorney, public-sector executive, trustee, educator, and governance leader committed to helping people and institutions reach their potential.

My Story
Jillean Battle has spent her career helping people and institutions recognize what is possible—and then building the systems, partnerships, and courage necessary to reach it.
Her understanding of opportunity began in Compton, California. When the resources Jillean needed were not available in her neighborhood, her mother drove nearly an hour to take her to a better-equipped library. Those trips taught her something she has carried throughout her life: talent is everywhere, but access is not. They also inspired the question that continues to shape her leadership:
What must an institution do to ensure that a person’s circumstances do not place a ceiling on their potential?
Jillean has explored that question across law, government, public finance, healthcare, education, technology, and community leadership. An attorney and public-sector executive, she has advised elected officials, executive teams, and governing boards; helped oversee billions of dollars in public assets; strengthened governance and accountability; and developed strategies to help complex institutions responsibly navigate risk and change.
Her career has included service as Chief Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel for the State of Indiana, Deputy Treasurer for the State of Missouri, a trustee of the Indiana Public Retirement System, and Indiana’s Privacy Ombudsman. Today, she serves as a Privacy Officer, helping a complex public healthcare organization strengthen privacy, data governance, institutional trust, and responsible innovation. Her work also extends to artificial intelligence governance and the human consequences of emerging technology.
But Jillean’s leadership has never been only about systems.
She is an Ivy Tech Community College campus trustee, former adjunct professor, mentor, speaker, and advocate for educational opportunity. She believes institutions are strongest when they see the whole person—not merely the employee, student, customer, or number on a report. Whether she is advising a board, mentoring an emerging leader, teaching a classroom, or speaking from a stage, her work is grounded in the belief that good leadership should leave both people and institutions stronger than it found them.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Jillean holds professional certifications in United States and European privacy, artificial intelligence governance, healthcare privacy, and process improvement.
Her leadership sits at the intersection of governance, stewardship, courage, and growth. She is not afraid to ask difficult questions, challenge comfortable assumptions, or create space for voices that have too often been overlooked.
